Happy Birthday Grant

On February 17th our little superhero turned 3. His Nana came to visit this weekend, so we celebrated his birthday on Saturday. We let him choose what we did. He really wanted to go bowling (we've gone bowling before and he loved it). We bowled one game before Reagan got too ansie, then spent some time in the arcade. Grant can play the video games all by himself, he just needs a lap for a boost. Then we went home and the boys put together some race car foam activities that Grant picked out for his "birthday party" he said. We ate dinner and had cake. Make a wishIf you were wondering, the answer is yes, that is a cake. I know it doesn't look anything like a cake, I don't even know what it does look like... maybe mud and dirt from the backyard. Shawn thinks it looks like a rendition of Pangaea on top of dirt. Well, your guesses are all wrong. It is a dinosaur bone cake and this is what it's supposed to look like. Cake decorating is definitely something I need to work on. I had high hopes for the bone cake. Either way, Grant loved it. Us, on the other hand.... all I have to say is that it was gluten and egg free.
He loved all his gifts. Every night Grant wears his Superman pajamas that are size 12months that his Uncle Ian got for him two years ago. So, this year Ian got him a new pair, size 3T, yeah! He LOVES them. Thank you Ian!Yeah, a superhero starter kit from Jefferson, and no Reagan you can't have it.He loved his book from Grandma and Grandpa Skinner. He likes anything having to do with trains and we had to ask him to put it down to open the rest of the gifts. Thank you Grandma and Grandpa, "I like choo-choos." Lately, Grant has been really obsessed with wolves and the 3 little pigs, so I made him this Pig/Wolf stuffed animal. I got the pattern from the book, Softies by Therese Laskey. When I first saw it I thought it was kind of weird, but then I started to love it and knew I had to make one for Grant. He likes it. I thought he and the Pig/Wolf would be inseparable, but it's still laying on the floor by his bed. Maybe it will grow on him with time, like it did with me!
This little boy of ours is getting older and I don't like it. I love to cuddle with him and tell him he's my "sweet little boy", then he yells at me "I'm a BIG BOY." Oh, Grant, I just wish you could stay little forever. He brings so much joy to our lives. He's so witty and funny, it amazes me everyday what he thinks of and says. He shocked us this Sunday by telling us "I love my class, I love my teachers" after YEARS of saying "I hate church, there are bad guys here, I want to go home." Wow, maybe his turning 3 will change a lot of things. Maybe he'll stop wearing diapers, or maybe he'll sleep through the night. We love everything about him he really makes our family colorful. He is amazing! Happy birthday my sweet little boy!
I had to add this picture of the boys star gazing. Jefferson used an entire roll of scotch tape to construct this "Ceticope" (telescope) from his toys. Grant used his Viewfinder, no tape. Then the boys stared at the moon in the frigid air for a good 15 minutes, reporting to us everything they saw. It was an adorable moment, dare I say a "Kodak moment." Sometimes those two get along so well I forget all the screaming from earlier in the day.

Cool...tell Grant we said Happy Birthday. I'm glad you cleared the air on the cake. I have to admit I was a little grossed out when I first saw the picture because I thought those were chicken nuggets on top;) And the pig cow, weird yes, but it shows your true crafty side. You are my inspiration!
Oh and I have to tell you what Cadance said. She was sitting by me on the couch while I looked at your blog and I started to tell her about hoe it was Grant's birthday as we looked at the picture of him with the superman pjs. the first thing she said was, "why does he have snot in his nose?" I busted up laughing because all the things she could have noticed or said she picked that! It was funny:)
