So, if you remember right, my mom came to visit at the exact same time that Shawn was in Vietnam, which totally saved my life (or the lives of my children). Her plane was scheduled to leave the day after Shawn returned home. Then, one day she called me and said she wanted to extend her stay because, and I quote, “I want to watch the kids for a couple days so you and Shawn have the opportunity to do something together.” What? I quickly got a q-tip to clean out my ears because I thought I misunderstood her. Folks, it costs money to change your flight, and she was willing to do it in order to babysit my kids. Obviously she’s a good mom and can sense that I am overworked and underpaid.
Shawn and I spent 2 whole days together, and it was fabulous. I told Shawn, I will plan Monday if you plan Tuesday. If you will notice, there are only pictures from our Monday date because it was the best and there was no topping it. Try as he might, Shawn could not come up with anything as thrilling (at least anything in our city).
I surprised Shawn by taking him to Zipquest, which is less than 10 miles from our house.
We strapped on our gear, got some instruction, then headed out for a treetop tour which include 8 ziplines and 3 canopy bridges…. truly frightening for someone afraid of heights, which I am, but I got over it quickly after the first zip!
Shawn, flying through the trees, weeee!
I look like a total natural, so relaxed! I wish the cables had been longer.
It was hard to resist banging my chest and hollering like Tarzan.
Walking up a spiral staircase on one of the platforms. Hello
Shawn bullied me into leaning off the edge of the platform. It looks like the ground is 3 feet away, wrong… more like 60! This got my nerves going a little, and once I finally got comfortable Shawn insisted I let go and hold his hand. I was freaked out, hence the most awkward hand-hold in history! Notice Shawn isn’t holding on at all, what a fool!
The best part of the adventure (besides the adrenaline rush of flying through the trees) was seeing Carver Falls. It is a beautiful waterfall and we viewed it from a suspension bridge, then zipped right over the top of it.
It started raining and we got to travel through half of the course sopping wet. It was the most fun I’ve had in a while. (I know, I need to get out more).
Shawn and I survived! The kids survived without us. And most importantly, my mom survived watching 4 kids alone. She’s amazing and I am so thankful for her.

Seeing the delight in your faces makes my "sacrifice" - NOT, all the more worthwhile. I could never replace their mother, but, I must say that time spent with my grandkids was "priceless" - - easy to say, now that I've survived (much like you did, on that zip-line!) ha ha
I do appreciate your appreciation!!
totally jealous!
I too am jealous. And I think you are funny. Miss you Kristina!
