Dough

The kids and I love to sit and mold, shape, punch, cut, squish, and create things with dough. But when it comes to Play-doh I get nauseated. The smell is horrid. Whenever my kids have put it to their mouths I cringe thinking about its sickening taste and who knows what toxic ingredients it has in it. To make a long story short... I hate store bought play-doh.
So, we make our own. I am sure everyone has a favorite homemade dough recipe, but this is ours.
It's super easy to make.
The kids help make it, which they love.
The recipe makes a TON of dough.
It is as smooth as store bought (no grainyness.... is that a word?).
It lasts forever!
I know every ingredient that's in it and all of them are edible (not that we sit and eat it, but you know kids...)
And best of all, it has NO smell, unless of course you add Kool-aid to it which colors it and gives it a delicious smell!

Our Favorite Play Dough Recipe
2 cups flour
2 cups warm water
1 cup salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon cream of tartar

Mix all of the ingredients together in a saucepan, and stir over low heat. The dough will start to thicken. When the dough pulls away from the sides, remove it from the pan and let it cool a little. Knead the dough until it's smooth, then separate into balls for coloring.
Add food coloring and mix into dough. Yeah! Lots and lots of play dough. (we made 2 batches to get this much.)
Now spend all afternoon playing with your dough. Make pancakes. Make airplanes and firetrucks. Make animals. Smash some into the carpet and watch your mom scrape it out. Hammer and cut the dough. What the heck... mix all the colors together into a ball of vomit color.

While the boys made wonderous things with their dough, Reagan had something else in mind. She went to the pantry and pulled out a plain ice cream cone (one of her favorite snacks). She came back to the table and made herself an ice cream with her dough......genius.
The result... a totally fun day!
