Cape Lookout

I've been meaning to post these pictures for over 2 weeks. All I can say is that I am very lazy nowadays. I don't know what to blame for it. Maybe the summer, in general, makes me lazy.
Anyways,
The week before the Mitchells moved away we took one last trip to the beach with them and the Reeds. Shawn had clinic that day, so the bugger didn't get to come enjoy the fun. We went to Cape Lookout, which is near Tillamook. I'd never been before, and I don't know why.... it was great.
The weather started out pretty cold and windy, but after a little while it was beautiful. We stayed for a few hours while the kids played….

As usual, Jefferson played in the frigid water the entire time. He, Miles, and Jemma were the brave ones.

Grant did surprise me by actually getting into the water. Granted, it was only to his ankles… that's true bravery for him, trust me. This is him filling up a bucket with water.

We used the buckets to build this sandcastle... Here's the kids (minus Jefferson) and Molly showing it off

Don't be deceived… I know it looks like a 20 minute hack job of a sandcastle, but this sucker easily took us an hour. And by US I mean, Molly, Jen, and I. Okay, the kids contributed……. By building the mote, and adding bridges, but we packed and lifted those 40 lb buckets of sand! But, all that work was worth the 10 seconds it took the kids to smash it down (which is the best part of building a castle, isn't it?)

Hattie, Carter, and Reagan attacking Molly in the sand.

Oh, this boy is too cute!

Grant, working hard gathering stones…. then taking a snack break

After the sun came out, Jefferson and Miles got hot and took their shirts off. I laughed when I saw how they laid them out to try on the rocks.

Reagan, flying her first kite.

After playing on the beach for a while, we barbequed and had dinner. The kids got to roast marshmallows.

I love this picture. Something must have been really funny!

The girls, sitting down and roasting

It was a perfect day. And a perfect way to spend one last outing with our favorite people!

There's going to be a ton more beach outings this summer.

But I doubt we'll be able to top this one!

Enjoyed getting a feel for that outting. I especially like the photo of Rea Rea gazing up at the kite, and the one of the kids snickering by the fire. "Carefree" seems to be the theme of your summer, ha?
