I don’t think snow is very common here in NC. But what do I know? I’ve only lived here 20 months. I get the feeling I’m right though, because at the very thought or mention of snow the world STOPS! Completely stops, as in the whole city shuts its doors.
I grew up in Pollock Pines, CA. I remember having snowball fights at the bus stop. When I got to school, I would take off my boots and put on tennis shoes in the classroom, then at recess I would put my boots back on. We actually had recess, outside, in the snow. And those were the best days ever!

There was a “chance of snow” when I found out there would be no school the following day. The next day I had crazy kids destroying my house and driving me nuts, and no snow. Then school was canceled again.
I sent Shawn to the grocery store one evening to get a few things. He called me to say that he couldn’t get everything because the store was closing. Closing?
And, Shawn got a called reporting that he didn’t need to come to work… the base was closed!
And all for a few inches of snow.

I promise, I’m not making fun of NC… okay, maybe I am a tad.
But I’m certainly not complaining. I loved having Shawn home for several days. I loved watching my kids play in the snow with each other. We had 2 snow storms and the kids were home for 8 days, so we basically had an early spring break.
And the best part? To make up the days they missed, the kids have to go to school on Saturdays.
Saturday school is the best idea! Shawn and I went to breakfast, did some shopping, dawdled around… it was like a date with free childcare, although that probably wasn’t the School District’s intentions. Whatever, I’ll take it!
Here are my troops in the snow… with no idea they will have to give up their Saturdays for this.
I think they’ll agree it was worth it

Kennedy, I would say, is NOT the biggest fan of snow, but she lasted outside longer than I expected.

Isn’t she cute? (Watch out, this blog post is about to turn into a photo collage of Kennedy).
This was her first time seeing it, touching it, and tasting it.

It wasn’t too long before she had had enough snow. She refused to keep her gloves on, so her hands were bitter cold. But she’s still just as cute crying as she is smiling.

Reagan made this cute, lopsided snowman, and instead of dressing him with a carrot and raisins, she requested to paint him. Isn’t he cute?
I have to give a shout out to my mom, who has been collecting random snow clothes from thrift stores for us. You just never know when a freak snow storm might come. We were well stocked with everything, except boots for Grant. Shawn made him makeshift boots out of plastic bags.

The kids had a blast, and no one seemed to mind that we had no food in the cupboards. The stores could close down all they want, we were too busy playing.
