They always ask the tough questions…

…. Like "How does Spiderman go to the bathroom?"

So, how does he?

I was lucky enough overhear the boys talking today while they were playing with their superheroes. I think candid conversations when kids don't think anyone is listening are little gems!

First of all, Grant believes this is actually Spiderman's skin. Jefferson tried to convince him it was a costume, and he wasn't buying it. "It doesn't look like a costume, it covers his whole body, even his head and hands and feet…see."

G: How does Spiderman go to the bathroom? (there was a long pause, then Grant answered his own question), Maybe he doesn't have to go to the bathroom, ever, he is a spider and spiders don't go to the bathroom

J: yes they do, all things that are alive go to the bathroom, and Spiderman is alive

G: well, I don't see any hole in his skin where he can go to the bathroom at

J: That is because there is a hole in his costume, but he buttons it up when he is done going to the bathroom

G: but that is his skin and I don't see any buttons (which caused further discussion over whether Spiderman wears a costume or not). "Well, I think he has to take off his skin to go to the bathroom."

J: no one can take off their skin

G: Spiderman can

J: No, he can't. I think he takes off his costume to go to the bathroom

G: that's his skin (more costume vs. skin conversation).

J: I just think he just has to take IT off when he has to go.

G: but what about when he's fighting a bad guy and has to go potty?

J: I don't know, go ask Mommy

G: (leaves his room to come find me) Mommy… when Spiderman is fighting a bad guy and has to go potty does he have to take off his skin?

What kind of question is that? Luckily I had just listened to their whole conversation. I sat down and we talked about all the Superheroes and how they got their skin/costumes, whatever you want to call it… and how they go to the bathroom too.

We laughed…….. A lot!
